In addition to the decision to create a special fund to support the translation efforts, the conference was presented with one other emergency new business motion this morning, to establish a conference committee on the Web and technology.
It passed by a very large margin.
Oh god, stop me before I comment again….. Too late, here I go. We had a similar conference committee for many years, so it’s not a terrifically extraordinary thing that this was changed from a board to a conference committee. The original computer committee was eliminated and the board technology committee created because (from my recollection) we’d finally gotten over our confusion and fear about the use of the interwebs, and decided to go at it. The advantage of board committees is that they are lithe and responsive; they can take actions and change directions quickly. The advantage to the conference committee, of course, is that it has board participation from the full group conscience of OA, but they can’t make things happen very quickly. Judy was on the original computer committee. She has tales to tell.
